Fanfare For The Common Man --- BFL#83 Thanks Our Veterans by WM Paul Gordon

The November stated communication of BFL#83 was on November 11th, Veterans Day. Several members of our Lodge are military veterans. Others have family members who are or were veterans. All of us appreciate the sacrifice that all veterans have made for us and our country. While we all, veterans or not, try to meet our duty to God, our families and our country in many different ways, this is a day and time for a very special remembrance of those who risk, and give, their utmost measure through military service.

To this end, the Brethren humbly took a few moments, after the Pledge of Allegiance, to meditate on the meaning of Veterans day. They did so while listening to Fanfare For The Common Man, by Aaron Copland. In 1943, as a contribution to the war effort, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Music Director Eugene Goosens commissioned fanfares from a number of American composers. Copland’s Fanfare For The Common Man became by far the best known. It is Copland’s most frequently played three minutes of music.

So, in honor of our veterans, on the occasion of Veterans Day, the Brethren of Benjamin Franklin Lodge #83 thank and extend our most sincere and brotherly appreciation to those who have served for all of us.
