National Geographic's Genographic Project: A Personal Journey

On March 28, 2007, Bro. Gary Oien presented a short film and talk to Benjamin Franklin No. 83 about his participation in the National Geographic Genographic project. The Genographic project seeks to map the history of human migration out of Africa be examining certain genetic markers found in human cells. Bro. Oien submitted a cheek swab samples for analysis and learned about his "deep" genetic history. This history revealed his link to an Africa ancester some 60,000 year ago (the Project's "Adam") and how and when his unknown ancestors migrated out that continent, through the Middle East, and ultimately into Europe some 5,000 years ago.
